Khabib Nurmagomedov enjoyed every moment of his lopsided win over Conor McGregor.
“The Eagle” spoke to a crowd in Chicago (h/t s khalil) and was asked by the hosts of the event about the feud with McGregor that led to the biggest fight in UFC history at UFC 229 in October 2018. In a build that saw McGregor take shots at Nurmagomedov’s family and religion, Nurmagomedov destroyed McGregor in the octagon that night en route to a submission victory.
Nurmagomedov told fans that if people talk trash about
you, it’s best to ignore it and not allow the noise to effect you in a negative way. However, not everyone is in the same position that Nurmagomedov found himself in with his profession.
“One thing that’s very, very beautiful in this world, when you don’t like somebody, you go inside the cage, you smash him, and they give you money,” Nurmagomedov said. “Outside of the cage if you do this, you go [to] jail.
“I was waiting [for] this moment so long. I find that I cannot only fight, I can talk, too. I used this moment to enjoy — like the way how you go to Maldives? Same thing. It was my vacation.”
Following the win, Nurmagomedov jumped over the octagon and a brawl ensued between he and McGregor’s teams in one of the ugliest moments in UFC history. Eventually, security was able to keep things from getting to a very bad place
Nurmagomedov was asked about his decision to leap over the octagon and “extend the vacation” after tapping McGregor.
“It was a very emotional moment,” Nurmagomedov said. “It was very emotional… and, yeah, I don’t think it was good thing, good example. …
“Sometimes, we never know how we’re going to act if something happens. You can sit, watch, eating popcorn, and you can judge people, ‘Oh, this guy is bad, this guy is not bad.’ But when you’re going to be in this place, in that time and day, you never know how you’re going to act. People ask me: ‘Do you regret?’ It’s how I’m going to answer the question.”
