The champ has a name, and it’s “Gora Mermerby Escorpion!”
That’s the name of the horse former UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira drove to victory at a harness racing event in Argentina over the weekend,
making this his second big win in two weeks.
“Today I realized another great dream of mine, to win in Argentina,” Oliveira wrote on Instagram. “A great career with GORA MERMERBY ESCORPION, it’s even more special in a prize grid like the national race thank you to everyone who helps me and believes in my dreams, thank you!”
Charles Oliveira’s love of horses is well known and he’s shared videos from harness races in the past. Now it seems like he’s moving up in the world, taking his horse and two-wheeled cart to Argentina. It’s unclear what event he won at this point, but Charles is clearly excited about it and we’re excited for Charles.
Just last weekend, Oliveira bounced back from a bad loss to Ilia Topuria to beat Mateusz Gamrot via second round submission in the main event of UFC Rio (watch it here). He took the $50,000 performance bonus he got from that win and threw a party in his old neighborhood, proving once again that he’s a real one.
It’s unclear what’s next for “Do Bronxs” in the cage, but a BMF battle with Max Holloway sounds pretty great. Until then, we expect to see Oliveira continue to win at life.
