Hello
my friends! The Mariners are on a skid, but the world of baseball news keeps on churning.
In Mariners news…
- Victor Robles has officially been handed a 10-game suspension for throwing his bat at Joey Estes. He must serve his suspension in the majors, and whenever the Mariners decide to start that clock, they will have to play one man down on the roster until his time is served. He is expected to appeal his suspension, which could result in a lessened sentence but is unlikely to wipe it away completely.
Around the league…
- Andrew McCutchen revealed that he plans to play again next season — which will almost certainly be for the Pirates.
- Former Mariners outfielder Jake Fraley has been claimed on waivers by the Braves, where he will join Jarred Kelenic.
- Yankees manager Aaron Boone stuck his foot in his mouth by claiming that Aaron Judge would not be able to return to the outfield this season — which Judge took offense to — and then reversed course on those remarks.
- After a prolonged slump in his sophomore season, Atlanta’s Michael Harris II is having a Julio-like nuclear August. Ben Clemens at Fangraphs dove into the young outfielder’s hot stretch.
- Juan Soto is rapidly turning into a liability defensively, writes Esteban Rivera at Fangraphs.
- Awful Announcing unveiled their annual ranking of all 30 MLB broadcasting booths.
Anders’ picks…
- Before they decided to make a sequel to Kirby Air Ride, I thought this game was a fever dream that only my friends and I experienced, because we must have poured well over 1,000 hours into it but I feel like nobody else ever talks about it. Alas, some other sickos apparently loved it too.
