Following the Green Bay Packers’ win over the Washington Commanders, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur told the press that slot receiver Jayden Reed broke his collarbone and “is going to miss a lot of time.” LaFleur said that there’s an expectation that Reed will return to the field this season, but I’d suggest that Packers fans assume that Reed is going to be out for six to eight weeks.
Without Reed, Green Bay will lean on Romeo Doubs, Matthew Golden and Dontayvion Wicks to help make up for the lost
snaps. Other options also include Malik Heath and Savion Williams, who contributed more in Week 2 offensively than in Week 1, likely due to Reed’s injury.
In Week 6, Christian Watson is eligible to return from the physically unable to perform list, following the Packers’ bye week. At this point, though, it’s uncertain whether Watson will be called up as soon as he’s eligible.
With defensive end Brenton Cox Jr. going on the injured reserve earlier on Thursday, Green Bay is already at a 52-man active roster. If Reed is placed on the injured reserve before a player is added to the team, they’ll be down to 51 next week against the Cleveland Browns.
The Packers have three practice squad receivers: Mecole Hardman, Will Sheppard and Isaiah Neyor, if they want to bring up one of them, too.
