Barcelona president Joan Laporta has hinted that Marc-Andre ter Stegen could stay with the club for the rest of the season amid speculation about a move to Girona.
Ter Stegen is said to be open to joining
Michel’s side on loan in a bid to play regularly before World Cup 2026, with the Girona boss having already admitted he would love to have the Germany international in his squad.
Laporta was asked about Ter Stegen after the Spanish Super Cup win and said the veteran could stay on.
“Ter Stegen has a contract and if he is comfortable and wants to he will be with us,” he told RAC1.
“With the three goalkeepers we have, the squad is covered and it has to be like that in such a demanding season.”
Staying at Barcelona may well hurt Ter Stegen’s chances of being Germany’s No. 1 at World Cup 2026, but a transfer to Girona is complicated due to his high salary.
Indee it’s been previously reported that Barcelona will have to pay a large part of Ter Stegen’s wages if a loan move to Girona is to happen this winter.
