The Pittsburgh Pirates are hoping to improve their infield in 2026. While they have made some moves to already help with that by trading for Tampa Bay Rays second baseman Brandon Lowe, there is more that can be done.
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reporter Jason Mackey is reporting that the Pirates are interested in signing Seattle Mariners third baseman Eugenio Suárez.
Suárez would be a great addition for the Pirates, given the fact that they had very little offensive firepower this season. The team has
a need at third base, and Suarez could be the opening-day starter if you were to sign with the team.
Last season, Suárez played with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Mariners and clubbed 49 homers, marking a career high. He also had 118 RBIs with Arizona and Seattle.
The Pirates are currently keeping Jared Triolo at third base, but he can be used as a utility piece. Getting a player like Suárez to be the everyday third baseman and occasional designated hitter would be a viable solution for the team.
The Pirates are just a few weeks away from spring training, so they’re going to have to come up with an answer at some point. The team could be waiting to see what the Boston Red Sox do with Alex Bregman, another top third baseman free agent, to determine what Suárez’s market would look like. But Pittsburgh has to focus on its own game rather than other teams.
