Former Bayern Munich head coach and current Borussia Dortmund boss Niko Kovač is not exactly delivery Knute Rockne speeches these days and his latest statements will not go over well, either.
When asked by WAZ about Borussia Dortmund’s ability to compete with Bayern Munich next season, Kovač dropped an absolute hammer that will not likely inspire much hope from fans.
“I know everyone expects more, higher, further, faster. I don’t see us challenging Bayern next year. I’m not a naive person, but a realist,
and I’m trying to put everything into perspective. Bayern have far more money, far more superstars than we do,” Kovač said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Kovač is toeing a fine line here with his “reality.” Is he wrong? No. Does it need to be said? Also, no.
Kovač started with these kinds of statements a few weeks ago and they have built up to this point where it could be a major issue with fans, his players, and the club executives. The former Bayern Munich coach is putting himself in some hot water unnecessarily and hopefully — for his sake — he does not come away too burnt.
