The North Carolina Tar Heels take the court in the ACC Tournament for the first time tonight at 9:30 PM. Carolina takes on fellow charter ACC member Clemson in the quarterfinals.
Last night, Clemson earned the 71-62 victory over Wake Forest.
UNC defeated Clemson just nine days ago. As each team finished with the same conference record, that win was the tiebreaker for the double-bye in the ACC Tournament.
The Tar Heels are 15-1 versus the Tigers in the ACC Tournament. The last Clemson victory over Carolina
was an upset in the quarterfinals of the 1996 tournament in Greensboro.
The No. 4 team has a 35-29 record against the No. 5 team in the ACC Tournament. Last season, the fifth-seeded Tar Heels defeated the fourth-seeded Demon Deacons.
The 2021 and 2022 tournaments were the only previous times a No. 13 seed has advanced to the quarterfinals, and each time the lower seed lost. Miami lost to Georgia Tech in 2021, and Boston College lost to Miami the next year.
UNC must adjust, knowing that First-Team All-ACC member Caleb Wilson will not be part of the postseason run. Tonight is the first challenge of March. Let’s see how the Tar Heels start their second season.
