Newcastle United whiffed for the nth time when it came to sign their No. 1 transfer target and find themselves scrambling for alternatives.
One of those is a former Premier League asset—coincidentally a Liverpool one—as Newcastle are reportedly looking at Darwin Nunez as they consider adding another striker this summer.
According to Football Insider, the former Liverpool forward is expected to leave Al-Hilal in the near future, with several English clubs monitoring his situation.
Newcastle are one of
the sides interested as Eddie Howe looks to refresh his attacking options after a difficult season, with the former Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez being looked at by the Magpies.
“Darwin Nunez is attracting interest from Premier League clubs including Newcastle United as he edges closer to leaving Al-Hilal this summer, Pete O’Rourke reported. ”Liverpool are not set to move for his services soon.“
Newcastle have already lost Anthony Gordon to Barcelona and Sandro Tonali to Tottenham, and they also missed out on Victor Munoz, increasing the need for attacking reinforcements in what was slowly shaping up to be another panic summer transfer window until the arrivals of Bazoumana Toure and Sean Steur.
Newcastle seemingly keep studying what to do with Germany international Nick Woltemade, whose first season at St James’ Park ended with questions over his role and consistency, not precisely because of his lack of production—which showed up in numbers during the first portion of the season—but rather Howe’s misuse of the tall man and his diminished role in the gaffer’s plans.
Woltemade scored eight Premier League goals and added three assists last season. Nunez, meanwhile, had an uneven spell at Liverpool, but his best Premier League campaign came in 2023-24, when he recorded 11 goals and 10 assists in 36 league appearances.
For now, no formal Newcastle offer has been reported, with Nunez also seeking a hefty deal coming off the Saudi Pro League.
