Chelsea have been desperately scrambling for solutions over the past 24 hours in the wake of Liam Delap’s hamstring injury, but it looks like we may have scrambled just a bit too desperately.
The good news on Sunday night is that we managed to recall Marc Guiu from his loan at Sunderland. The bad news is that in the meantime, Bayern Munich have had enough, and they’ve walked away from the Nicolas Jackson deal. Oopsies!
So we’re getting both players back? That’s probably not ideal.
Guiu had a slightly
inauspicious first week at Sunderland, but he started their League Cup match (and is thus cup-tied) and was used as a substitute this weekend. He’s unlikely to see more impactful minutes at Chelsea as things stand.
And though maybe the right move all along was to keep Jackson, Bayern were giving us a pretty sweet deal with a massive loan fee and buy-option. No other team will match that at the moment, especially with Jackson reportedly off to Senegal now to join up with his national team.
So now what? The transfer window slams shut at 7pm tonight.
