The 24/7 nature of sports media coverage almost never misses anything anymore. Things that used to happen behind closed doors quickly become out in the open, little things become big things, and interest almost never wanes. That is especially true when you are talking about a famous player like Cleveland Browns QB Shedeur Sanders.
Sanders has only played one snap for the 3-2 Browns this season, after losing the starting quarterback competition to Deshaun Watson. The young QB was reportedly “chasing”
in the competition the whole time.
Trade speculation around Sanders is nothing new. A little over a week ago, ESPN added Sanders’ name to a list of young quarterbacks that could change hands, only to see Mary Kay Cabot throw fire on that possibility. On Wednesday, the trade rumor mill fired up once again after Sanders decided to hire an agent, instead of representing himself.
How did hiring an agent connect the dots to a trade? Marvin Harrison Jr.:
Is it possible that Sanders expects to be traded and hired an agent? That Sanders wants to be traded, so he hired an agent? That the Browns informed him he might be traded, so he wanted representation?
Yes to all of those:
It is also at least equally plausible that Sanders just decided to hire an agent at this time and chose the same one as his buddy, WR/CB Travis Hunter.
For now, it is all speculation, but like when Cleveland adjusted DE Myles Garrett’s contract months before his trade, decisions like this could mean a lot… or nothing at all.
Are you reading into this move by Sanders? Do you think trade rumors will amount to something or is it just noise?
