The final day regular season has arrived, with the Milwaukee Brewers already securing the best record in baseball. Despite this, today’s game still offers plenty of intrigue as they face their NL Central foe, the Cincinnati Reds.
While Milwaukee’s playoff position is secured, the Reds are still in the fray. If they win today, they’re win. If Milwaukee takes the victory, the Reds will have to hope the Mets lose in their game against the Marlins. Cincinatti has heated up at just the right time to push
for the Wild Card, posting a season-best .583 winning percentage this month with a 14-10 record.
The Brewers send out their ace Freddy Peralta to finish off the season. With a 2.68 ERA entering today’s game, Peralta can add a final touch to his resume, his personal best season since 2021. This might be a shorter start just to stay in rhythm for the playoffs, but his consistency should be commended. He’s only allowed more than one earned run twice since the start of August.
Cincinnati’s Brady Singer will take the lead in the Reds playoff push, making his 32nd start of the season. After a stretch of seven outings in which he posted a 1.94 ERA, Singer got roughed up by the Pirates his last time out, surrendering four runs over 5 1/3 innings. Singer is usually pretty reliable to go six innings, so the Reds will hope he can find his stellar form from the weeks prior to his outing against Pittsburgh.
Christian Yelich takes the leadoff spot for today’s game, playing at designated hitter. This lineup change has stayed the same since September 22 when he first moved up to top of the batting order.
Jackson Chourio will command centerfield, joined by Isaac Collins in left field and Sal Frelick in right. Although Frelick is only batting .250 over his last twelve starts, he has recorded at least one hit in all but one.
The infield starts with Caleb Durbin at the hot corner, followed by Andruw Monasterio, Brice Turang, and Jake Bauers. Danny Jansen gets the start at catcher.
Despite the Reds putting together a solid September playoff push, they haven’t done it with an exceptionally hot lineup. Out of their six players with enough plate appearances to qualify over the last 30 days, only TJ Friedl (105 wRC+) and Matt McLain (104 wRC+) have been better than league average.
The Brewers announced a few roster transactions before today’s game. Both LHP DL Hall and RHP Trevor Megill were reinstated from the 15-day injured list. To make room for these moves, RHP Erick Fedde was designated for assignment with RHP Carlos Rodriquez being optioned to the Rookie ACL Brewers. Fedde had a solid run with Milwaukee this season, providing a 3.38 ERA over 16 innings since his arrival in late August.
Today’s game is set for a first pitch at 2:10 p.m. You can find the broadcast on FanDuel Sports Network Wisconsin and the Brewers Radio Network.
