19-0.
Georgetown went on a 19-0 run to start the game. Marquette women’s basketball missed their first nine shots of the game and didn’t get a field goal until 40 seconds left in the opening frame.
Georgetown
scored the final seven points of the second quarter to go up 23, 41-18, at halftime.
After Marquette scored the first five points of the third quarter — and after I left at halftime because boy, howdy, do I have better things to do with my time — Georgetown went on a 9-0 run to go up 27.
The fourth quarter is now underway as I type this, and it started with Marquette down 15.
This is what Marquette’s response is to going up 20-5 at Seton Hall and handing over a 17-0 run, and then going up eight on the Pirates in the third quarter and losing anyway. Shooting 27% from the field in the first half and committing 11 turnovers. 1-for-11 in the first quarter, 0-for-7 behind the three point line in the first 10 minutes, seven turnovers.
Ever watched a team’s NCAA tournament hopes, slim as they may be, completely evaporate in just 20 minutes? If you watched the first half of this game, you have.
Okay, game’s actually over now and lol Marquette held Georgetown without a field goal for the final six-plus minutes and only lost by nine, sure, okay, that’s a real accomplishment.
No highlight package today, and if you think you saw one on YouTube, no you didn’t, there are no highlights.
Up Next: oh, good, a road trip to visit the St. John’s team that 1) beat Marquette in Milwaukee and 2) lost to Georgetown 59-34, yep, that’s definitely going to be a good use of everyone’s time and mental health. Tipoff on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, is set for 7pm Central, and Peacock will have the streaming broadcast.
