Alycia Baumgardner retained her trio of super featherweight world titles tonight with a hard-fought victory over Bo Mi Re Shin, and is already turning her attention to the future and a potential bigger fight.
Baumgardner says she would prefer to fight either Katie Taylor, who plans to have a retirement fight this fall at Croke Park in Ireland, or MVP stablemate Amanda Serrano. Her promoter, Jake Paul, threw in his two cents and mentioned the Taylor possibility — for which MVP has already offered Baumgardner — and didn’t
mention the Serrano call-out.
One name that Baumgardner apparently is not interested in is WBC lightweight titlist and another fellow MVP fighter, Caroline Dubois.
“I’m a piranha, that’s a guppy,” Baumgardner said of Dubois. “Get her out of here.”

On Shin and her own performance:
“I knew she was tough, she’s a Korean woman. I knew I had to be consistent, use my jab, and set things up. Bo was gonna come regardless, so it was up to me to set the pace. I am (happy with my performance), fuck, I made it here. Three minutes, 10 rounds, on my period? Baby, stop playing with me.”
On working with three-minute rounds again:
“I’m feeling comfortable. It’s an adjustment every time. Three minutes is a long time. I think it suits my style. I’m still growing, I’m still learning. I don’t know everything and I’m OK with that. You just go back and you keep getting better.”
On not getting the stoppage:
“I’m not disappointed. I’m just happy I was able to be back in the ring, three minutes, put my punches together, look good doing it. You’re not always gonna get the stoppage, but I showed levels to my boxing game, and that’s important, too.”
On what she wants next:
“Katie Taylor or Amanda Serrano, what’s up?”
On when she wants to fight again:
“Bring me back in the fall. I stay in the gym, that’s my lifestyle, I want to continue being great and continue breaking the barriers in women’s sport, period.”
