Bayern Munich are back in Bundesliga action on Saturday, with a tricky away trip to Mainz standing between them and another three points. After an impressive 2-0 victory over Atlético Madrid in the Champions League, Bayern will be looking to carry that momentum into the weekend and maintain their excellent run of form.
However, this is not exactly a fixture Bayern can afford to take lightly. Mainz have made life uncomfortable for Bayern in recent meetings, and last season’s trip was a particularly
unpleasant reminder of what can happen when the team does not show up ready to compete. Bayern found themselves trailing 3-0 at halftime before eventually fighting their way back into the contest.
Aaron Danks has already emphasized that Bayern will need to be at their highest level from the opening whistle. That is especially important given the physical demands of the recent schedule and the number of players dealing with injuries or needing their minutes managed.
