Week 2, Sunday Night Football. Tonight we have a matchup featuring two rising quarterback prospects. J.J. McCarthy and the Minnesota Vikings host Michael Penix and the Atlanta Falcons in an NFC contest.
J.J. McCarthy got his first NFL start last week after missing his entire rookie season in the NFL last year due to injury. It did not go well for McCarthy and the Vikings early on in their game against the Chicago Bears. McCarthy and the Vikings offense looked out of synch and downright incompetent
at times during the first three quarters of the game. However, everything started to click in the final quarter as the Vikings came back from an 11 point fourth quarter deficit with three touchdowns to squeak out a 27 – 24 victory. Now McCarthy and the Vikings aim to make it two straight wins when they take on the Falcons.
Michael Penix and the Atlanta Falcons got off on the wrong foot to open the season, suffering a last minute game winning touchdown on a Baker Mayfield pass to Emeka Egbuka in a tough 23 – 20 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to open the 2025 season last week. Now they try to avoid falling into an 0-2 hole against the Vikings.
