In two short years at Bayern Munich, Michael Olise transformed from the very, very good player he was at Crystal Palace into becoming a world star. His performances in the World Cup, despite a couple of duds, only underlined this perception of the former Reading FC player. Such a profile saw Real Madrid heavily linked with a move for the Frenchman, though nothing was come from those rumors, while other clubs also reportedly circled. Olise’s contract situation, tied down at Bayern until 2029, saw Bayern enter
the summer of 2026 in a very strong position and under no pressure whatsoever. Some speculate, however, that the Bavarians may start to sweat as the player’s contract continues to get closer to its’ expiration date.
Ergo, Olise is still getting linked to many clubs. Madrid remain the most hotly rumored destination, despite the huge signing of winger Yan Diomande over the past summer, and Sport Bild used the first international break of the 2026/27 season to ask Olise’s France teammate and Madrid star Kylian Mbappé what he thinks about the rumors. This is what he had to say:
“I’ve heard the speculation. But I know it very well myself: when I was a PSG player, there were countless rumours,” Mbappé reasoned (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “And I think it would be disrespectful to advise a player to leave. That would be unfair to Bayern. Especially since Bayern are a great club where Michael can achieve a lot. Of course, every club in the world would love to have Michael Olise. He’s an outstanding player.”
The self-proclaimed favorite to win the Ballon d’Or did establish a strong relationship with Olise while playing for France and that connection reached new, incredible heights during the World Cup. Recreating that partnership at club level would make sense for Madrid. But Bayern are hardly passive bystanders in this situation and will fight to keep one of their star players.
