Iowa right-hander Ty Blach was released.
Outfielder and second-round pick Caden Sorrell and right-hander and tenth-round pick Luke Alwood were both promoted to Low-A Myrtle Beach from the ACL Cubs.
Pelicans right-hander Kaleb Wing has been placed on the full-season injured list.
Iowa Cubs
The Iowa Cubs were swept by the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Yankees), 13-3.
Jace Beck gave up a home run in the first inning and a home run on the second inning and got the loss. The final line on Beck was five runs on seven
hits over just two innings. Beck walked two and struck out five.
Six Iowa pitchers combined to give up 13 runs and 20 hits.
Left fielder Jonathon Long hit a solo home run in the fifth inning, his 12th on the year. Long went 1 for 4 with a walk.
Catcher Ethan Hearn hit his first-ever Triple-A home run in the ninth inning with the bases empty. Hearn was 2 for 4 and has five total home runs this year.
Right fielder Kevin Alcántara singled in the eighth inning to extend his on-base streak to 41 games. Alcántara went 1 for 4 with an RBI groundout in the first inning.

Knoxville Smokies
The Knoxville Smokies reeled in the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (Marlins), 5-3.
Starter Kevin Valdez pitched five innings, surrendering three runs on five hits. All three runs came on two home runs. Valdez walked two and struck out five.
Frankie Scalzo Jr. retired the side in order in the top of the sixth and got the win. He struck out one.
After Luke Little threw a scoreless seventh, Marino Santy pitched the final two innings and got he save. Santy allowed two hits and one walk, but no runs. He struck out two.
Second baseman Drew Bowser hit a grand slam as part of a five-run sixth inning for the Smokies. It was Bowser’s first Double-A home run and sixth overall. Bowser entered the game in the top of the sixth and that was the only at-bat he got.
Shortstop Karson Simas went 2 for 3 with a double, a walk and an RBI single in the sixth. Simas then scored on Bowser’s slam.
Right fielder Andy Garriola went 2 for 4.

South Bend Cubs
The South Bend Cubs lost to the Lake County Captains (Guardians), 1-0 in a game that ended after seven innings because of rain.
This loss deserves an asterisk because South Bend scored four runs in the top of the eighth, including a home run by Jose Escobar. But because the game was called before the Captains got a chance to bat in the bottom of the inning, all of that was wiped out and the final score was 1-0.
Pierce Coppola had a great start, but he took the loss anyways. Coppola allowed just one unearned run on two hits over five innings. He struck out four and did not walk anyone, although he did hit two batters.
South Bend had two hits, both singles, before the rains came.
