The Tennessee Titans gave cornerback Alontae Taylor a massive 3-year, $58-millon deal in free agency. He was supposed to be a cornerstone in the defensive resurgence under new head coach Robert Saleh. That hasn’t been the way things have played out to this point. Taylor has struggled to the point that he was a healthy scratch in the Titans’ Week 6 win over the Indianapolis Colts.
A benching of a player of Taylor’s magnitude is naturally going to start trade rumors. Some rando tweeted out on Sunday
that the Titans are considering trading Taylor. I didn’t give that much credence, but this morning at ESPN, Jeremy Fowler mentioned Taylor as a name to watch at the NFL trade deadline. The biggest hurdle, as Fowler mentions, is the money Taylor is owed over the next couple of years. The Titans would likely have to eat some of the $20.5 million that is guaranteed next season.
If the Titans can get a day two pick for Taylor, they should absolutely do it. Otherwise, it would be best for Saleh and the team to work through whatever issues Taylor has had to this point so this defense can continue to get better.
