Robin Roefs: 6/10
Didn’t have much to do other than to pick the ball out of the back of the net, wasn’t particularly accurate with his long kicking today but typically calm with the short stuff.
Thomas Meunier: 7/10
Actually had a decent debut, kept Maeda quiet and showed good reading of the game to cut out potential breaks. Got forward constantly too.
Dan Ballard: 6/10
An all action defensive display but I don’t think he ever looked particularly comfortable, on or off the ball.
Luke O’Nien: 4/10
Generally played well, breaking the lines with passes and some runs when space
opened up but, unfortunately, the elephant in the room is that he made two similar errors. Lapses of errors when on the ball that let in Enciso for the opening goal, then did it again in the second half and had to drag his man down.
Reinildo: 6/10
Had his hands full with Fatuwu, who got the better of him a couple of times. Did well to win the ball high up and then pick out Brobbey though, which should have resulted in a goal.
Granit Xhaka (C): 6/10
A tidy but not eye-catching display in the middle of the park, kept the ball ticking but his final balls from corners and crosses were quite poor.
Noah Sadiki: 8/10
Was up and down the pitch all game, helping out defensively and then bursting forward to get into the box. Had a great header well saved in the first half and had some great runs down the left before the break.
Trai Hume: 6/10
Made a couple of our better chances, playing Brobbey through on goal very early in the game and then putting a cross onto Sadiki’s head but relatively anonymous otherwise.
Enzo Le Fee: 6/10
There was plenty of good from Enzo today, lots of quick turns that left the opposition for dead and then played lovely through balls, notably for Angulo down the line and Brobbey into the box. Also turned into trouble a few times though, could maybe have had one or two more free kicks after being dragged down but went to the well one too many times.
Nilson Angulo: 6/10
Brought us level with a brilliant free kick that went in off the bottom of the cross bar. Caused some problems down the left, getting in behind O’Shea, final ball wasn’t there though.
Brian Brobbey: 5/10
Had two great chances, right at the start when he was one-on-one but dallied a little and allowed a block to come in, then when Reinildo picked him out on the six yard box, but again took too long. Not quite sharp enough.
Substitutes
Chemsdine Talbi: 5/10
Didn’t cause too many problems after coming on, despite being up against a centre back playing at full back.
Omar Alderete: 5/10
Replaced O’Nien after his horror show and then tried to better it by passing to Ipswich for the winner.
Wilson Isidor: 5/10
Came on for Brobbey but saw very little of the ball.
Habib Diarra: 6/10
Tried to be positive after coming on and looked to run down the right hand channel.
Chris Rigg: 6/10
Came on and saw a bit of the ball down the right.
Man of the Match: Noah Sadiki
Sadiki was easily the best player on the pitch in the first half, constantly winning the ball or putting himself about and then bursting forward down the left to put dangerous crosses in. Almost scored his first goal but saw his header from Hume’s cross well saved, faded a bit as the game drew to a close but still my man of the match.
