The Blazer’s Edge Best Things Ever Tournament has reached the final bracket matchup of the Elite Eight round. For those unfamiliar, for the last few weeks we’ve been voting on a March Madness setup of 64 off-the-cuff chosen, mostly-randomly-arranged items all of which have one thing in common: they’re pretty good things. Day by day, post by post we’re whittling them down in head-to-head matchups until only one is left to be crowned the Best Thing Ever of 2026.

This matchup will provide the last entrant to the Final Four. It pits Kissing against Books.
Books have had the most amazing run of any item in the tournament. They’ve beaten out Kittens, Chocolate, and Pizza, any of which could have had a legitimate claim to Final Four status themselves. Books provide endless hours of pleasure and a sense of connection even in solitude. They convey important concepts through time, immortalizing some of humanity’s greatest thoughts. They even provide fodder for social clubs! It’s hard to overestimate the power of the pen and page.
But Kissing, amirite? Nothing sets your heart aflutter as easily. It’s a means of communication so basic than nearly every human tribe or culture has engaged in it. Technically speaking there’s a strong chance your very existence began with a kiss which then led to…other things. Heck, kissing is so ubiquitous you can do it to kittens, pizzas, and books too, plus nearly every other item in the Elite Eight!
