It has not been the best week in Yankee Universe, the Bombers offense looking a little sluggish in a three-game set with the Guardians while the team held its breath as Aaron Judge underwent an endless series of tests and imaging. We’ve at last gotten an answer on Judge, and it’s not a good one: the captain has a rib stress fracture and will be re-evaluated in four to six weeks. New York was at least able to salvage a game from Cleveland yesterday, and they won’t have any time to dwell on the loss
of Judge with the rival Red Sox coming to town for the first time in 2026. The Yanks are within a half-game of the Rays for first place.
Ahead of the series with the Sox, get prepped with Matt’s preview of the three-game set, as well as Sam’s review of Thursday’s American League action. Also, John celebrates the great Jack Chesbro on the occasion of his birthday, and Madison delivers the answers to this week’s mailbag.
Today’s Matchup:
New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox
Time: 7:05 p.m. EST
TV: YES Network, NESN
Venue: Yankee Stadium, Bronx, NY
Questions/Prompts:
1. How much does Judge’s injury impact the division race? Will the Yankees be able to pass the Rays without their captain, or are they in real danger of falling further back as he recovers?
2. Are the Knicks really about to take a 2-0 series lead back to New York in the NBA Finals?
