The No. 10 Texas Longhorns were in dire need of a bye week.
The Longhorns went 4-1 in the streak since their last week off, but made it as dramatic as possible with two overtime wins and holding off a three-score
comeback from Vanderbilt in that streak. The lone comfortable win was a 23-6 win over the Oklahoma Sooners, who now sit just one spot behind Texas in the AP Poll.
However, with two losses, none of that matters if they don’t close the last three games of the regular season well. And that run starts with a road trip against the Georgia Bulldogs, the team that beat Texas twice last year in its march to the College Football Playoffs. While UGA still has two games remaining after this one, this is their final SEC game of the year, meaning that the outcome of this contest solidifies their place in the SEC Championship race, especially in relation to Texas and Ole Miss, who both also have one loss.
There may not be a chance for Georgia to overtake the teams ahead of them for the conference title. Still, a Texas win puts them deeper into “win and you’re in” territory, with conference-leading Texas A&M looming on the horizon.
On top of the conference title implications for this season, this is the last chance for Texas to erase the frustration of two losses to Georgia for at least two seasons, with UGA missing from the schedule until the 2027 season.
