Tony Alford and the Wolverines picked up another running back commitment in their 2027 class, as in-state three-star Lundon Hampton announced his pledge on Thursday afternoon. He chose Michigan over his other finalists, Michigan State, Iowa and Penn State.
This recruitment happened pretty fast, as Alford extended Hampton a scholarship offer on April 2. Hampton took two trips to Ann Arbor in April — including for the spring game — and he also has his official visit on the docket for next month.
“Michigan is definitely a great program,” Hampton told Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong ($) earlier this month. “I like their culture, the way they develop players, and how they compete at a high level every year.
“The coaching staff has been real with me and I’ve built a good relationship with them. I feel like it could be a good fit because of how they use their players and prepare them for the next level.”
The 6-foot-2, 195-pounder from Grand Rapids, Michigan and plays football at Kenowa Hills High School. He’s the fourth Mitten State native — along with four-star edge rusher Recarder Kitchen, four-star offensive lineman Jakari Lipsey and three-star offensive lineman Louis Esposito — to join the Wolverines’ 2027 class thus far.
Hampton is the second running back to join Michigan’s 2027 class, as he joins four-star Tyson Robinson, who committed to Michigan last weekend. The Wolverines now have 13 total commitments following this news.
