The strength of No. 3 Maryland women’s lacrosse’s graduating class has been on full display this season, putting professional scouts on high-alert. On Wednesday, two of these players were recognized for their talents, as Kori Edmondson and Maddy Sterling were selected in the first-ever WLL College Draft.
Edmondson was taken by the New York Charging in the first round with the fourth overall pick. The 2025 Inside Lacrosse First Team All-American was projected to be one of the first players taken off
the board, and for good reason. Edmondson has been a leading producer for the Terps since her freshman campaign, scoring 174 goals across 77 total appearances and becoming the 30th player to reach 200 career points in College Park in March.
Her prowess as a defender has cemented her as one of the premier two-way midfielders in the sport, and was the second player taken at her position. With the WLL switching from a six-on-six format to a 10-on-10, midfielders of her caliber were highly sought after heading into the draft.
Conversely, Sterling’s selection in the third round as the 11th overall pick was largely unexpected. The graduate student hadn’t appeared on any mock draft boards leading up to the draft, but was taken by the Maryland Charm in a surprise move.
Sterling has flown under the radar in her five years at Maryland, only receiving awards for classroom performance. But this season, the defender has been a standout on the Terps’ backline. Sterling and senior Neve O’Ferrall both lead the Terps with 13 caused turnovers and 20 ground balls.
Before making their professional debuts, the two draftees will need to finish out the remainder of their seasons at Maryland, with a national title still on the line.
