The injury to Martin Emerson earlier in training camp certainly changed how the Cleveland Browns feel about the current state of their cornerback group. After getting a look at the depth at the position in the preseason, there are some concerns about how this group will hold up, especially if there are any other injuries to the starters.
Denzel Ward, in particular, is prone to injuries and has historically missed a couple of games each season. With Greg Newsome already being moved to the outside due
to the Emerson injury, there are questions about who will be able to step up on the outside for either Ward or Newsome if they have to miss time. In addition, Cam Mitchell struggled in the slot during the pre-season, and there would be concerns if he ever needed to be moved to the outside.
If the team is optimistic that Tony Brown II and Myles Harden can step up, they might be comfortable with the group they have right now. If they are concerned about this, it wouldn’t be surprising for the Browns to sign another cornerback or two in the coming weeks.
Let me know what you think in the comments – Will the Browns’ cornerback depth hurt them this season? Should they go out and sign someone else?
