Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we are talking about Mizzou Football.
Fall camp for Mizzou football has finally come to an end meaning the college football season is so close.
With the first game set for next Thursday night, Eli Drinkwitz and team captains spoke to media regarding the upcoming season.
First, Eli Drinkwitz addressed that this camp has been the hardest camp he has held. With the heat — and as the players are saying a planned gauntlet — fall camp was not easy for the players.
Drinkwitz’s plan must’ve worked as he
claims the team heads into the season with no injuries.
The QB battle is not done as Drinkwitz still won’t name his starting guy. He did share to media that he should have an answer in the next 24 hours.
Captains spoke as well with Matthew, Rory and I on the scene. I wrote a story on Muckey’s journey past cancer for Rock M+ while Matthew and Rory took care of the coverage over here.

Regardless of position, Cayden Green is primed to have a big junior season after an impressive sophomore campaign.
All signs are pointing to Green starting at left tackle with Peagler and Giudice at the tackle positions, but don’t get it twisted: Green will be legit anywhere that he plays.
Ultimately, the longer this quarterback battle goes on, one starts to wonder if there’s a little bit of Occam’s razor at play. Personally, I tend to lean that way in Pribula’s favor. Kirby Moore has hinted that Pribula is the favorite.
I find it pretty difficult from a head coaches perspective to throw SO MUCH money into a quarterback just for him to get benched. You also have to assume if Pribula gets benched he will leave after the season.
Ignore the touchdowns and interceptions for a minute; for the past three-ish years Brady Cook has operated as Missouri’s primary quarterback with the following cumulative stat line:
65.3% completion percentage, 8.0 adjusted net yards per attempt, 41.8% passing success rate, 6.1% sack rate
Those passing stats are good, not great.
If the Tigers can replicate this, they’ll have a serious chance at being contenders this year. But with the QB race still on, these numbers aren’t guaranteed.
What stands out most when you look at the graphic above is all the gold matchups. The Tigers will play NINE games at home, 3/5ths of the overall schedule. While the schedule includes plenty of mid-majors, it includes big-time home matchups against Power 5 teams such as Cal and Illinois.
While the Tigers have struggled the past couple seasons, they have always taken care of business on home court.
The Tigers get a lot of opportunity at home to secure some wins ahead of SEC play.
Over at Rock M+ we have more Mizzou football discussion in forums, along with a story about WR Logan Muckey’s journey to captaincy from me. It’s free to all and a really cool story, you should check it out.
