It’s Sunday once again, and you know what that means — it’s time for our weekly social media roundup! The Yankees began a tough stretch against AL playoff teams this week, winning two of three against the Houston Astros before taking on the Toronto Blue Jays over the weekend. With so many important games on the docket in such a critical time of year, most current players have kept their social media presence limited this week, which means we have ourselves an alumni social media post. Let’s see what our old
friends have been up to!
CC Sabathia Day
Before the Yankees’ Sunday matinee against Toronto, they honored former ace CC Sabathia, who was enshrined in the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown back in July. His plaque was on display in the Bronx, and after he helped hand out miniature giveaway plaques, old friend Andy Pettitte drove him out in a golf cart before CC threw the ceremonial first pitch. The Yankees also announced a $250,000 donation to his PitCCh In Foundation, and he spoke to the fans with gratitude.
Congratulations, CC! Hopefully we’ll see you again sometime in the next couple years for Monument Park honors.
And don’t worry, we won’t judge you for bouncing the first pitch.
Otto’s YouTube channel
It’s safe to say that Adam Ottavino has probably hung up his cleats. After making a couple of cameo appearances in the Bronx earlier this season, the 15-year veteran has now attended Yankee games using his golden ticket, joined the YES studio (where he did an incredible job), and, apparently, start a YouTube channel where he talks baseball. Check out one of his recent videos below:
Cricket at the Stadium
As part of his role as an ambassador for the game of baseball, Nick Swisher joined Liam Plunkett to play some cricket in the Bronx while the Yankees were on their most recent road trip.
Oswald’s Big Week
Former Yankee top prospect Oswald Peraza had a few key highlights with the Angels last weekend, helping his old team by taking a series against the Houston Astros.
Happy Labor Day!
Suzyn Waldman took to social media to remind us that Labor Day is not simply a holiday weekend that marks the end of the summer and the beginning of the new school year, but a celebration of the laborers on whose back this country was built and of those who fought (and continue to fight) for the rights of the working class.
Fantasy Football
Like all of us, Major League Baseball players love fantasy football. As such, the Yankees’ social media teams asked several Yankees — Luke Weaver, Aaron Boone, Cody Bellinger, and Jake Cousins — to construct football rosters out of their teammates. Not surprisingly, most took Cousins, who is actual cousins with NFL QB Kirk Cousins, as their QB, and all had Aaron Judge in some capacity — but as for the rest? Whose squad do you think is the best?
Jazz on the Umps
Knicks guard Josh Hart, a relative of Yankees great Elston Howard, took to social media to criticize the umpiring in Wednesday’s loss against the Houston Astros.
Why is this tweet significant, beyond the fact that a prominent New Yorker who is vaguely related to the Yankees posted it? Well, Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. retweeted the post as he criticized the umpire’s strike zone both on social media and in postgame interviews.
