Shakur Stevenson had it pretty much entirely his way tonight against Teofimo Lopez, outclassing his rival en route to a wide unanimous decision win, taking the WBO super lightweight title in the process.
It’s the fourth division in which the 28-year-old Stevenson (25-0, 11 KO) has won a world title. The fight was never truly in doubt, as Stevenson took over strong by the third round and, apart from a couple of rounds late where he maybe laid off the gas a bit, Teofimo never got close to keeping pace with him.
Lopez (22-2, 13 KO) has lost before, but never like this. He was not in this fight. He was not a threat at any point, really. Stevenson put on a masterful performance, and it’s hard not to say he’s got to be among the top five or so pound-for-pound at this point. At the very least, he’s made a strong case for that claim.
