Malik Washington has dazzled for Maryland football through four games. National media is starting to take notice.
ESPN’s Billy Tucker ranked the quarterback the top freshman in the country Monday, ahead
of other freshman signal-callers like Michigan’s Bryce Underwood and Cal’s Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele.
Washington led all freshman quarterbacks in both passing yards and passing touchdowns entering the Terps’ bye week, and was top-25 in both stats among all quarterbacks regardless of class.
The freshman defensive end tandem of Sidney Stewart and Zahir Mathis also appeared on the list, coming in at No. 5 as the list’s only pair. The duo has combined for 6.5 sacks and 11 tackles for loss, with Mathis also blocking a kick against Wisconsin.
The freshmen now has a chance Saturday against Washington to lead their team to its first 5-0 start since Taulia Tagovailoa was quarterback.
