0-3… we went from pundits predicting the Texans would win the Super Bowl to 0-3.
Sure, the only team to go 0-3 and still make the playoffs is Houston, twice. But neither time led to playoff glory, just a slightly extended season. So don’t mind me if 0-3 fails to excite.
Worst of all, Nick Caley is still “running” the offense… into the ground.
Blame the Houston Texans Head Coach?
“We’re
all in this thing together” – Demeco Ryans… Now, most leaders will not step to the mic and slag one of their people. It’s just endemic of terrible leadership. And, Demeco is a solid leader. Which begs the question: what is happening behind closed doors? Rumors of division in the team, the defense having “players only” meetings already? Not a good look, no matter how you slice it.
Losing hurts all, winning heals. And the offense is not playing to win.
Blame the Houston Texans General Manager?
And, before the Caserio haters chime in and blame him for not drafting/signing/trading for better offensive lineman to give Caley more to work with, here’s an all-too familiar story:
These are all NFL quality athletes. Caserio didn’t draft guys from the local Buffalo Wild Wings, he drafted highly rated, highly scouted, deeply researched collegiate athletes. They play under Caley (and Slowik) and stink. They move to other teams and do well.
That leaves the door open to blame the scheme. The Erhardt-Perkins offensive is one of the best in the modern NFL. It’s highly adaptable to the players, the opponents and scaleable from simplistic to highly complex.
The scheme works and has worked in many places, earning an awful lot of Super Bowl trophies and rings. Hence, it’s not the GM, or the scheme. That leaves the offensive coaching staff: Caley, Popovich, et al..
Dallas Cowboys vs Houston Texans
Which brings us to this week’s poll:
Losing to Jerry’s Kids is worse than starting 0-3, especially when it leads to 0-4.
Unfortunately, as long as Caley is calling the shots on offense, this team will continue to under-perform. The defense isn’t firing on all cylinders either, but that’s a topic for another post…
