Real Madrid coach José Mourinho talked to El Chiringuito and shared his thoughts on some members of the team. Mourinho had high praise for Arda Güler and explained why he thinks the Turkish playmaker could eventually play deeper for the club. When asked about finding successors for both Luka Modric and Toni Kroos, Mourinho brought up Güler.
“There is only one Luka and one Toni. I like Arda; I think he could follow a path similar to Luka and Bernardo, starting as a No. 10, an offensive player, and then
shifting deeper. Arda is headed in that direction, and with his understanding of the game, that’s the trajectory he could take,” he said.
Then, Mourinho was asked about whether or not he requested Real Madrid to sign Yan Diomandé.
“I haven’t asked anyone for anything. I arrive without asking anyone for anything, I arrive having analyzed the squad well and being aware of what I’d like to happen. But with the things that happened last season, I wanted to know a lot and act like I didn’t know anything. A fast, aggressive winger who can play on both sides isn’t easy. I don’t want to analyze if he costs 120, 80, or 20, I analyze what he can give my team, and I said ‘yes, I want him,’ what he costs isn’t my business,” he said.
Mourinho concluded this second part of his interview by talking about Negreira-gate.
“The Negreira case is in the courts, let’s see what justice says. I felt something strange, didn’t know the name, didn’t know who Negreira was. But it was strange. A few years later, it’s already known it’s not strange, the only thing I find strange is justice. In Italy, they did it with Calciopoli,” he said.
