Let’s right to this week’s Olympic Sports round-up:
Men’s Soccer (7-6-3, 4-3-1)
Syracuse hosts Hofstra on Thursday night. The winner gets to take on defending National Champion Vermont. Do the Orange have
a bit more November magic left? The game is at 6:00 and streaming on ACCNX. Congrats to Tomas Hut and Tim Brdaric for making the ACC All-Tournament Team
Volleyball (13-13, 5-11)
The Orange losing streak has stretched to seven as the team falls back to .500 after losing 3-1 to both Wake Forest and NC State.
Syracuse now goes on the road to face #4 Pittsburgh and #8 SMU so it’s not going to be easy to get back in the win column.
Cross-Country
Saturday is the NCAA Championships at the University of Missouri. The women’s 6k starts at 10 with Selma Anderson the lone Orange runner competing. The men’s 10k race is 11 and the #4 Orange look to continue their strong stretch that has seen them go from a team that people weren’t talking about, to a legitimate podium contender.
Conditions are expected to be muddy which can help a Syracuse group built to run the 10k distance, but when you get to a race like this, you need everyone to deliver to get a top-four team spot. Without a lock for a top 10-15 individual this year, the Orange pack running needs to be strong if they want to come home with the best finish since 2015.
Women’s Ice Hockey (6-9, 4-4)
Syracuse had a tough weekend at #6 Penn State as the Orange were out-scored 18-2 by the Nittany Lions. Syracuse is tied for 4th in the AHA with Lindenwood. Peyton Armstrong continues to lead the Orange in scoring with 9 points on the season.
The Orange will host Mercyhurst this weekend.
Tennis
Serafima Shastova advanced to the NCAA Championship in singles. Shastova lost in the opening round to Washington’s Erika Matsuda 6-2, 7-6, but it’s the second-straight NCAA individuals appearance for the Orange senior and a strong conclusion to the Fall season.
