Bayern Munich’s unbeaten domestic season, at the time of writing, has not come from nowhere. The Bavarians have faced numerous stern challenges to date this season, from snatching a point from Union Berlin
and Mainz 05 or scoring an injury time winner against St. Pauli. But the 1-0 deficit at half-time to Rasenballsport Leipzig, the first time the Bavarians ended the first 45 minutes in a losing position this season, seemed the most dangerous position of them all. Leipzig had created multiple chances and Bayern really struggled.
But when things get tough, Bayern keep their nerve. That is how they persevere time and time again. Serge Gnabry, who scored the all important equalizer after the break to start the comeback, touched on that as well:
“We didn’t score any goals in the first half, but we certainly did in the second,” Gnabry said, as captured by Bayern’s official website. “But I think we also controlled the game a bit more after the break, were a bit tidier. And at the end of the day, we knew at half-time: Okay, we can still turn this around, it’s not over. That’s how we went into the second half and were rewarded.”
