Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …
Mailbag: A visual of the Eagles’ decorated defense – PhillyVoice Question from @Generichandleguy (via Bluesky): Are the Eagles already too late to the Shanahan offense party? I’m concerned that they’re only now on board with something that was innovative years ago. Is there evidence that defenses have begun to or are already adjusting? … Great question. The Rams had the No. 1 offense in the NFL both in yards and points in 2025. The 49ers were 7th
in yards and 10th in points, despite a laundry list of injuries. So, no, I don’t think opposing defenses have successfully shut down that scheme. My concern would be more like when the Eagles and other teams around the league were trying to find Vic Fangio knockoffs who simply didn’t compare to the real thing. Fangio disciples like Jonathan Gannon, Sean Desai, Joe Woods, and Joe Barry all struggled to come up with answers when opposing offenses started to get familiar with ways to beat Fangio’s scheme. Fangio could adjust on the fly; some of those other guys could not. There are Fangio success stories though, too, like Brandon Staley. We’ve seen other Shanahan/McVay knockoffs fail. It’ll be interesting to see if Sean Mannion can teach, implement, and run the scheme as well as McVay and Shanahan have, but also adjust when necessary. That’s a tall ask. So, we’ll see.
McMullen: Are Eagles Making It Easier On Defenses By Playing Copycat (And Harder For Jalen Hurts) – SI
The real innovators are already moving on to the next thing. The irony is obvious. On defense, the Eagles employ Vic Fangio — the godfather of modern NFL defensive thought — whose concepts get copied league-wide as everyone else plays catch-up. Yet on offense, the Eagles have now voluntarily enrolled themselves in the remedial class while betting on a trickle-down effect in a system that doesn’t suit their quarterback on paper. After years of blazing their own trail, the Eagles have chosen to become just another team running the same scheme as everyone else. The question shouldn’t be whether it will work. It’s whether it will make life dramatically easier for the defenses they’re about to face.
6 losers from the Eagles’ spring practices – BGN
ELI STOWERS. Stowers had a very quiet spring, in part because he finished minicamp with some kind of undisclosed injury (compression sleeve on his right leg). It would’ve been nice to see Stowers thrive more in this passing camp setting since his receiving ability is supposed to be his biggest strength. It’s not like he was struggling to handle the rigors of physicality and blocking in non-contact practices. It’s obviously incredibly premature to sour on Stowers’ long-term outlook but I think it’s fair to have reservations about his ability to contribute in 2026. Barring major injuries, I believe Stowers finishes no higher than third in Eagles tight end snaps this season behind Dallas Goedert and Johnny Mundt.
More on the Favorite Games – Iggles Blitz
I got a lot of great feedback after yesterday’s post on my favorite games of the 90’s. I enjoyed writing it so I figured you would like that trip down memory lane. I will definitely do the 2000’s, 2010’s and 2020’s in the coming weeks. Some of you asked why I didn’t include playoff games. I felt they were too obvious and too easy. The 1995 wild card win over the Lions is one of my favorite all-time games. I rewatched that with my nephew a couple of years ago. He is a degenerate Saints fan (I assume my sister dropped him on his head too much as a baby) and I wanted to let him know you don’t need Super Bowls to love your team and have great memories. That 58-37 win over the Lions was special, even if it didn’t result in a trophy or a ring. You have to be able to embrace moments like that.
Eagles 2026 most important list: Tyler Steen – NBCSP
There was some angst this time last season about Tyler Steen taking over for Mekhi Becton as the Eagles’ starting right guard. Steen was solid. In fact, the Eagles had way bigger problems on their offensive line last year with injuries. Both Landon Dickerson and Cam Jurgens struggled through various ailments and then Lane Johnson missed the second half of the year with a Lisfranc sprain. At least Steen provided some very important stability. Last year, Steen started all 17 games at right guard in the regular season and started the playoff game. He played over 1,000 snaps (96%) and was on the field more than any other Eagles offensive player in 2025. Of 79 qualified guards last season, Steen was ranked at No. 15 by ProFootballFocus for his performance in 2025. For reference, Landon Dickerson was ranked 28th.
What’s every NFL team’s best and worst uniform in franchise history? -The Athletic
Best: Kelly Green alternate (2023-present). Yes, the “Kelly green” brings nostalgia to Eagles fans, but I actually think it’s more effective as an alternate in the “midnight green” era than as a weekly staple. It feels bigger when they select the Kelly green games the past three seasons. And whether it’s advancements in camera technology or in uniform vibrancy, the color pops with the present-day uniforms even more than it did three decades ago. Players are fond of them, too.
From holding the tackling bag to coordinating the Eagles’ passing defense, Joe Kasper is ready for his new role – PhiladelphiaEagles.com
What you know about Joe Kasper to this point likely has little to do with the exceptional job he’s done coaching in the Eagles’ defensive secondary for the four seasons, including the 2024 and 225 campaigns. Instead, you know him because he’s gone viral as the coach who holds the tackling bag and who, along with the bag, gets taken to the mat during practice by players working on their form. The safeties coach in ’24 and ’25, Kasper is now the team’s defensive passing game coordinator and coaching up the safeties is still a large part of his responsibilities. He is a rising young coach who has learned, and grown, working with coordinator Vic Fangio, eagerly learning everything he can about the NFL’s best defensive mind. “The thing about working with Vic that has been except exceptionally awesome for me is just the learning about the process, you know, the process of how he goes about week to week, developing players from, you know, taking what we’re working on right now and how that stacks on top of what we’re going to work on at Training Camp and how we’re going to evolve and change things. The best part about Vic is that he’s constantly evolving and changing.”
Which NFL breakouts, nosedives will continue in 2026 season? – ESPN
From a more general perspective, it’s easy to argue that A.J. Brown’s 2025 was a blip for that same reason. Professional athletes are all experts at converting perceived slights and doubts into impassioned performances. How often have playoff victors hollered “everyone doubted us!” after roughly 60% of experts picked against them? Perhaps no positional group on the football field is better at this conversion than wide receivers, who tend to engage much more with negative press and make statements with their play more than other players. Brown also plays a style that will translate well enough as his body ages. Surely he was at his best as a dominant blend of size and speed, but size still works as speed declines. Brown averaged 2.2 yards of separation last season by Next Gen Stats’ numbers, but he has averaged only 2.4 yards of separation across his career. Meanwhile, he had a catch rate over expectation of 6.8% in 2025 — his third consecutive season of dominating the stat. Even if Brown’s devolution into a contested catch artist is inevitable — something I don’t even believe in the slightest — he’ll probably still be pretty good at it. Verdict: Blip.
Christian Parker is the source of so much Dallas Cowboys optimism – Blogging The Boys
This offseason feels different. Nobody is saying that in the this offseason feels different way that so many have us have in the past. We are all capable of acknowledging that optimism runs through the Dallas Cowboys these days and that it all translating into them breaking The Drought™ this season are not exactly correlated. We’d like them to be, but you get the picture. What is the biggest catalyst for that optimism? One answer would be the lack of any offseason drama. There are no contract negotiation clouds hovering in the air. Shoot, Brandon Aubrey has a long-term deal in place that was taken care of a while back. Somehow, some way, George Pickens already signed the franchise tag that the team placed on him and pledged to play on it this season without holding out. That has been a big change in the overall vibe of Cowboys Nation, but I wanted to know what others believed. On Wednesday we asked users in The Feed what they believe was the best decision the team made this offseason (Caleb Downs falling so far that he was gettable wasn’t a decision to be clear) and the majority of answers had a common theme: Christian Parker.
How Daronte Jones will attack with new Commanders EDGE Odafe Oweh – Hogs Haven
Odafe Oweh recently discussed how he loved Commanders defensive coordinator Daronte Jones’ defensive style, because of he attack mentality it brings. Oweh was signed to a $96-million contract that has $68 million guaranteed, of which $50.6 million is fully guaranteed at signing. Washington’s significant investment indicates that Adam Peters views him as a key player in Washington’s defensive plan going forward. Odafe was my favorite free agent back in March, but I didn’t provide a lot of coverage because I did not believe he would be available. However, the Chargers chose not not to put the franchise tag on him and Baltimore forewent a reunion with new head coach Jesse Minter in favor of trading for Maxx Crosby. By the time that deal was nullified by the Ravens, Odafe had already signed with Washington.
How often will Jaxson Dart give the Giants an advantage at QB in 2026? – Big Blue View
Putting it all together, that gives the Giants a quarterback advantage in six of their games, a disadvantage in nine, and two draws. If you think QB play is the key to winning and that the defense will at least be respectable, that would predict a 2026 Giants team that is improved from last season but still a ways from being a contender. To be honest, I’ve been thinking 7-10 for the 2026 Giants even before Ed invited me to write this piece, so I can’t be surprised it worked out this way. (I promise I didn’t tally up the results until I got through all 17 games.)

Alex Freeman, son of ex-Packers WR Antonio Freeman, scores in USA’s World Cup win over Australia – NFL.com
His father played football. He plays fútbol. Alex Freeman, the son of former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Antonio Freeman, scored a goal in the first half of the United States’ 2-0 World Cup win over Australia on Friday. [BLG Note: Antonio Freeman played for the Eagles in 2002.]
USA Outlasts Socceroos to win 2-0 – Stars And Stripes FC
This is the first time the USMNT has won two consecutive World Cup matches in the modern era. They have now been thrust clear to the top of Group D on 6 points, 3 above Australia, with Paraguay and Türkiye yet to play their second match. The US is now guaranteed a spot in the knockout round, though it remains to be seen if they will finish first or second. Paraguay and Türkiye play later today and, if they draw or Paraguay wins, the US will be gauranteed to win the group since the first tiebreaker is head-to-head instead of Goal Difference. The USA will be back for their last game of the group stage on Thursday, June 25.
