Gerard Martín is being linked with a transfer to Italy, as FC Barcelona consider where his future lies, according to a new report.
According to The Touchline, AC Milan are keeping tabs on the Barcelona
defender ahead of the summer window. The numbers being floated are significant. Some reports place a potential bid above €25 million, others suggest it could edge closer to €30 million.
Barcelona are already working through different scenarios for June. The priority remains clear: strengthen at center-forward. That will not happen without freeing up salary space, and the club are not ruling out a meaningful sale to make it possible. No one is openly on the market, but not everyone is considered immovable either.
Martín is one of those players who is not being pushed out, but Barcelona will take the right offer. He came close to leaving last summer, when Wolverhampton Wanderers submitted an offer worth around €15 million and the two clubs were broadly aligned. The move reportedly collapsed because the player did not want to go. Everton also made enquiries late in the window, but that path never really opened. Martín’s position was firm. He wanted to stay.
Since then, little about his trajectory suggests he regrets the decision. The 23-year-old renewed until 2028 and carries a €100 million release clause. He has grown steadily since arriving from Cornellà in 2023, first under Rafa Márquez with Barça Atlètic and then with the senior side. He debuted in La Liga against Valencia in August 2024, scored his first goal against Real Sociedad last March and played his part in the domestic treble in 2024–25.
Under Hansi Flick, his role has evolved. Alejandro Balde owns the left-back spot, so Martín has spent much of this season as a left-sided center-back. It suits him more than some expected. He is strong in the air, rarely loses concentration, and looks comfortable enough stepping into midfield with the ball. It’s safe to say Martín has exceeded expectations from his rookie season, where he struggled at times. Milan, who are looking to reinforce that exact position with a young defender, see a player who is improving and has the right profile for them.
Another side of this is that Barça intend to sign another left-footed center-back in the summer. If that happens, there will be less minutes for him. That alongside a €30 million offer could make both the club and player choose to trigger a sale.
