The Wisconsin Badgers are losing starting punter Atticus Bertrams to the transfer portal, he announced on Saturday evening.
Bertrams, a native of Australia, came to Wisconsin in 2023 as a freshman and quickly
took the starting job as a scholarship player after former punter Andy Vujnovich ran out of eligibility.
But, it was an inconsistent start for Bertrams, as he averaged 41.3 yards per punt and only downed three punts inside the 20-yard line as a freshman. He improved last year as a sophomore, but struggled with inconsistencies again to start 2025.
That prompted the Badgers to rely on Sean West for longer punts, while Bertrams remained the punter for shorter distance punts. West was much better for Wisconsin, averaging 47.7 yards per punt on 25 attempts.
Well, Wisconsin will either go with West or look in the portal for another punter, as Bertrams is heading elsewhere for his final year of eligibility.
Bertrams is Wisconsin’s fourth publicly announced transfer. He joins walk-on outside linebacker Cody Raymond, wide receiver Kyan Berry-Johnson, and safety Remington Moss.
