Following Saturday’s 14-7 loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus, the Texas Longhorns lost their claim to the No. 1 ranking in the Coaches Poll and the AP Top 25.
But how far would the Longhorns drop? Would the Buckeyes take over the top spot in both polls.
The answers to those questions took an unusually long time to answer with college football games played on Sunday and Monday, but on Tuesday, both polls were released, with Texas falling to No. 6 in the Coaches Poll and No. 7 on the AP Top
25.
Head coach Ryan Day’s team was rewarded for its victory by moving up to No. 1 in both polls and receiving the majority of the first-place votes in the process.
With three non-conference games looming against weak opponents, Texas won’t have another opportunity to face a ranked team until traveling to Gainesville to play Florida a month from now, so any movement back up the polls over that stretch will require the teams currently ranked in front of the Longhorns to suffer defeats.
But that isn’t as important as the reality that all the goals Texas has for this season are still in play beyond whatever hopes there were for an undefeated season.
