Columbus Clippers (0-1) – AAA
The Columbus Clippers were the first of the affiliates to start their season, falling to the Iowa Cubs by a score of 2 to 5.
The first hit of the Clippers season belonged to Juan Brito, who hit a 2-out double in the top of the first.
The Clippers scored both runs in the 7th frame of the game. With one out, Juan Brito hit another double to left.
Kahlil Watson drew a 2-out walk, followed by singles from Stuart Fairchild and Cooper Ingle. Cooper’s single scored both Brito and Watson.
The Clippers offense drew a fair amount of walks, 8 total. Stuart Fairchild, Cooper Ingle, and Milan Tolentino drew 2 walks each. The team also had 8 hits with Juan Brito hitting two doubles and a single in his 5 at bats. Travis Bazzana hit a double in the 8th for his first hit of the season.
Ryan Webb, the starting pitcher, earned the loss having given up an earned run in the 3rd inning. Tommy Mace threw 2.1 innings of scoreless relief, but Jack Jasiak allowed 4 runs which proved insurmountable by the offense. Magnus Ellerts, Jay Driver, and Steven Pérez all pitched scoreless outings.
