Manchester United’s search for a new left-back has led the Red Devils back to one of Newcastle United’s brightest young players, but the Magpies have wasted little time making their position crystal clear.
According to Sky Sports, Manchester United made an approach for Lewis Hall around two weeks ago after identifying the England international as one of their preferred long-term options at left-back. However, Newcastle immediately rejected the enquiry and informed the Red Devils that Hall is not for sale
this summer.
“Sky Sports reports that United like the 21-year-old as they continue planning for life after Luke Shaw, who has just one year remaining on his contract. Hall, meanwhile, still has three years left on his Newcastle deal,” the report says. “Newcastle United have told Manchester United that full-back Lewis Hall is not for sale this summer, after an initial enquiry was rejected.“
Manchester United is looking to strengthen at left-back this summer and 21-year-old England international Hall is a player the club has long admired.
The update follows a report from the Daily Mail, which revealed Manchester United inquired about Hall late last month before being told he would not be leaving St. James’ Park.
“Manchester United made a fresh enquiry for Newcastle United left back Lewis Hall at the end of last month but were told he is not for sale,” the report says. “(Newcastle) want to add players to ensure they are competitive, having already lost the likes of Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali, while Bruno Guimaraes is on the verge of signing for Arsenal.
“They will do all they can to keep hold of Hall, who is now seen as one of their biggest assets after joining from Chelsea in 2023.”
Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano has also suggested Newcastle’s stance is tied to the club’s turbulent summer and their many first-team sales, stating that after losing several key figures, only an “extraordinary offer” would have any chance of changing the Magpies’ mind.
“Manchester United are looking to strengthen at left-back and that could be one of their next priorities,” Romano reported. “At the moment, Lewis Hall is considered too expensive and Newcastle have absolutely no intention of selling him. Newcastle are determined to keep Lewis Hall. Only an extraordinary offer could change their position, so we’ll continue to monitor the situation over the coming days.”
For now, though, Newcastle’s message appears unequivocal. Amid significant squad turnover elsewhere, Hall is one player the club has no intention of allowing to leave before the transfer window closes.
