Brazilian forward Bia Zaneratto has departed the Kansas City Current and signed with Palmeiras in Brazil as a free agent, the club announced on Wednesday. Zaneratto previously played for Palmeiras from
2020 to 2024.
“The impact that Bia had in Kansas City over the past two years is immeasurable,” said Current sporting director and former head coach Vlatko Andonovski. “Her quality, both on and off the field, will be greatly missed. On behalf of everyone at the Current, we thank Bia for everything she has given to this club and to this city.”
“They were two challenging years, but ones that brought me lifelong lessons,” Zaneratto wrote in the caption of an Instagram post. “I’m grateful for everything I experienced in Kansas City. To my teammates and the entire staff, you are truly incredible and special. To the fans, words fall short to express my gratitude for all the love I received from you—I will carry you all in my heart. It was an honor to be part of the KC family. Thank you, KC. I love you.”
Zaneratto won the NWSL shield with the Current this past season, when the club set league records for most wins and points in the regular season. She was also named a finalist for NWSL MVP. Zaneratto contributed five goals and four assists in 2024, and seven goals and three assists in 2025.
Internationally, 32-year-old Zaneratto has over 100 appearances with Brazil’s national team and has competed in four World Cups.
In a Palmeiras press release, Zaneratto highlighted how grateful she is to the fans and the team for supporting her, and said her goal for the team is to win titles.
“É bom demais poder voltar para casa. Todo o carinho que eu recebi quando estava aqui e até mesmo quando saí faz com que o coração bata mais forte na hora de tomar a decisão de voltar. Ter deixado as portas abertas também fez com que o meu coração ficasse sempre preenchido com esse carinho da torcida,” said Zaneratto.
