This season marked the last of this iteration of the Mountain West. In came Grand Canyon before the mass exodus for the new Pac-12. The Lopes finished sixth, but the story of this season was San Diego State.
The Aztecs, who won the tournament championship last season, claimed the regular-season crown this year.
All eyes now point to Las Vegas to see if SDSU goes back-to-back.
1. San Diego State (19-1 Mountain West, 25-4 overall)
The Aztecs one-upped last year’s Mountain West tournament championship with a first-place finish this year. Now, SDSU will look to make it consecutive trips to the Big Dance since 2009-10 behind the second highest scoring offense in the league.
2. UNLV (15-5, 20-10)
The Lady Rebels feature the top two rebounders in the Mountain West in Shelbee Brown and Meadow Roland, who are the only two players averaging better than nine boards a game. Roland also leads the league in blocks.
3. Colorado State (15-5, 24-7)
The Rams are led by Lexus Bargesser, who ranks third in scoring. CSU won six straight to close the regular season and will try to break through to its first NCAA Tournament since 2016.
4. New Mexico (14-6, 22-9)
The Lobos have the highest rebounding margin of anyone in the conference, nearly 1.5 boards a game better than second.
5. Boise State (14-6, 23-8)
The Mountain West’s most potent offense resides in Boise thanks in large part to Tatum Thompson, who is top five in scoring and leads the conference in field goal percentage.
6. Grand Canyon (11-9, 12-18)
Year one in the Mountain West for the Lopes saw them fit right into the middle of the pack. While GCU’s offense is average in the league, its defense ranks 10th of 12 teams.
7. Fresno State (8-12, 14-17)
The Bulldogs guard the 3-point line better than anyone else in the conference.
8. Wyoming (7-13, 10-19)
Malene Pedersen leads the Cowgirl offense as she sits second in scoring and is the only member of the team in the top 20 in the conference.
9. Air Force (7-13, 13-17)
Milahnie Perry leads the conference in scoring, while Jayda McNabb ranks second in steals and third in rebounding.
10. Nevada (6-14, 10-20)
The Wolf Pack struggled from deep this season and rank last in 3-point field goal percentage, 30 percentage points behind the rest of the conference. Nevada was the only team who did not reach the 100-made 3’s mark.
11. Utah State (2-18, 6-23)
USU has lost 17 straight games. This season marked the seventh straight season the Aggies failed to win more than five games in the conference.
12. San José State (2-18, 4-27)
The Spartans have struggled on the defensive end as they are last in scoring defense. They went 0-17 away from home.
