Pregame notes
After picking up a win in the Windy City, the Wizards hit the road again for a matchup against their Southeast Division foe, the Charlotte Hornets.
Like
the Wizards, the Hornets are off to a 2-1 start. They have done that without the services of their talented 2nd year star Kon Knueppel and guard Coby White, who were big contributors down the stretch last season for the Hornets. Despite missing both of those players, Hornets has managed to get off to a good start, led by one of their new acquisitions, Naz Reid.
This edition of the Hornets will be vastly different without LaMelo Ball, who was part of the trade for the team to acquire Reid. Charlotte plays at a much slower pace than the Wizards’ last two opponents. Wizards seemed to struggle a bit defensively with teams that have pushed the pace against them. Let’s see if Charlotte tries to exploit that weakness more.
On the Wizards’ side, the team will look to sharpen defensively as they have not put a consistent defensive showing in any of the three games so far. The team will once again be without #1 draft pick, AJ Dybansta, so they will have to continue to try to figure out their identity on both ends without what is expected to be one of the key pieces to their team this season.
This game is, once again, another opportunity for the Wizards to test how far along they are in the Eastern Conference pecking order.
