A late change was made to UFC 322 on Thursday with highly touted prospect Malcolm Wellmaker losing his opponent and then getting a new one on just two days’ notice.
Cody Haddon was forced off the card at
the last minute due to an injury suffered in training during fight week. As a result he was pulled from his fight and the UFC scrambled to find a replacement.
Stepping into the bout on short notice is Ethyn Ewing, who holds an 8-2 record overall and he’ll make his octagon debut on one of the biggest cards of the year.
Due to late change, Wellmaker vs. Ewing is now taking place as a featherweight fight.
Ewing actually just fought this past weekend when he scored a first-round knockout at Urijah Faber’s A1 Combat 32 event. That put Ewing on an eight fight win streak as he’s gone undefeated ever since losing the first two bouts in his professional career.
In those eight wins, Ewing has only gone to decision once so it should make for an exciting encounter with a known knockout artist like Wellmaker.
A veteran of The Contender Series, Wellmaker came storming into the UFC with an impressive, undefeated resume and he’s only improved since making his arrival.
Wellmaker is current 2-0 in the UFC with both wins coming from vicious knockouts including his first-round finish over Kris Moutinho back in June.
Wellmaker vs. Ewing is still scheduled on the preliminary portion of the card that kicks off at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday night from Madison Square Garden in New York.
