Rutgers Athletics has announced improvements to the softball fields that will debut during the team’s home opener later this month. These improvements include the addition of new dugouts, a new grandstand, and a press box. On top of that, lights were installed at the complex, meaning that Rutgers softball will be able to host night games for the first time in its history.
The new grandstand features chairback and bench seating, with a new sound system to go with it. The new press box includes a broadcast
booth, a two-tiered game presentation and operations area, and two covered outdoor areas for more workspace.
These stadium renovations come in addition to several improvements that Rutgers has made to its softball facilities in the last few years. These past improvements include the installation of all-weather turf, renovated bullpens, new fencing, a new backstop, and a new video board. On top of that, the field was outfitted for network broadcasting for the Big Ten Network and other broadcasting companies that might come to Piscataway.
These recent field improvements were supplemented by improving other softball-related facilities as well. In 2020, Rutgers softball received a new locker room at Jersey Mike’s Arena that included wardrobe-style lockers with charging stations and personal storage, a nutrition area, surround video, sound, an LED lighting system, and a dedicated space for equipment. On top of that, the university debuted the Fred Hill Training Complex in 2017, giving the team an indoor practice facility that allows the team to practice year-round. The indoor complex features state-of-the-art pitching machines, six batting cages, bullpens, and a full turf infield.
Rutgers softball will play in its improved home field for the first time when they play Fairleigh Dickinson on March 18th. Their next scheduled matchup is set for today at 6 pm at Maryland.
