The draw for the third round of this year’s Carabao Cup (i.e. League Cup) was held tonight, following Manchester United’s hilarious elimination by fourth division Grimsby Town, and as a result, Chelsea will be traveling up to Lincoln to take on third division Lincoln City. It will be the ninth meeting all time between the two sides, but a matchup some 114 years in the making, with Chelsea having not played the Imps since 1911.
The exact time and date of the game is not yet set, and will depend on
our Champions League schedule (the draw for that is tomorrow), with these two games set for the midweek fixture slots of the weeks of September 15 and September 22, right after the upcoming international break.
Plenty of opportunities for further giant-killings in this third round, so let us not be like Man United. The draw, in full, is as follows:
Port Vale vs. Arsenal
Swansea City vs. Nottingham Forest
Lincoln City vs. CHELSEA
Tottenham Hotspur vs. Doncaster Rovers
Brentford vs. Aston Villa
Huddersfield Town vs. Manchester City
Liverpool vs. Southampton
Newcastle United vs. Bradford City
Sheffield Wednesday vs. Grimsby Town
Wolves vs. Everton
Crystal Palace vs. Millwall
Burnley vs. Cardiff City
Wrexham vs. Reading
Wigan Athletic vs. Wycombe Wanderers
Barnsley vs. Brighton & Hove Albion
Fulham vs. Cambridge United
