AUSTIN — Texas Longhorns junior edge Colin Simmons suffered a lower-leg injury early in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s 27-24 loss to the Florida Gators on Saturday in Austin, head coach Steve Sarkisian said.
Simmons was helped off the field before heading into the locker room on a cart. He did not return.
“I don’t know the extent of it all,” Sarkisian said.
The injury ended a superlative performance for the 6’3, 246-pounder, who recorded a sack to extend his national lead and finished with eight tackles (five solo), four tackles for loss, and two quarterback hurries.
Sarkisian also said that freshman running back Derrek Cooper did not receive a carry against the Gators because he wasn’t 100 percent. Cooper was not listed on any of the conference-mandated injury reports this week.
