The Dallas Cowboys have a rough road to get back to where they want to be. They need to overcome having a first-year head coach and a totally revamped staff. They have to get previously injured players back in their lineup, including a devastated cornerback position. They also have to overcome the stupidity that is Jerry Jones’ negotiating efforts with Micah Parsons. That’s just internal stuff.
They will also have to navigate a suddenly stacked division. The NFC East is returning to former glories
with both Washington and Philadelphia participating in the NFC Championship game last season, with the Eagles winning a Super Bowl.
The division odds for the NFC East lay out like this:
- Philadelphia is the favorite at -135.
- Washington is second at +230.
- Dallas slides in at third at +500.
- New York brings up the rear at a whopping +1900.
The Eagles have every right to be big favorites in the division. They have once again been active in the offseason trying to plug any holes. The roster is stocked; it’s hard to find a real weakness to easily exploit. The hope for the rest of us is that they suffer the Super Bowl Hangover. Many dominant teams have come back to earth the next season for a variety of reasons. Complacency. Bad luck. Injuries. Right now, though, betting against the Eagles in the NFC East is risky at best.
Washington is an interesting case. They came out of nowhere last year on the arm, and legs, of QB Jayden Daniels. Now he has to prove it wasn’t a fluke. Sometimes, once the NFL has tape on you at this level, they start to exploit your weaknesses. We all remember Dak Prescott’s phenomenal rookie season. It took him a little while to get back to that level. Daniels has to prove in season two he is consistently that good.
We discussed the Cowboys up top to some extent. They have a decent roster once they get their walking wounded back. But it’s a brand-new regime and Jerry Jones’ issues are impacting the team again as the status of their best player, Micah Parsons, is unknown. They deservedly sit third in the division, but they also seem like they have a lot of potential upside.
New York is New York. They have quarterback issues, and if you have that you have a huge problem in the NFL. It’s hard to make a case for them as this juncture.
