During the first half of the Kansas City Chiefs’ Week 8 game against the Denver Broncos, rookie defensive lineman Peter Woods read a screen play and ran out to defend it before the ball carrier cut back inside of him. He got caught up in some blocks and apparently sustained a neck injury on the play.
He left the game and was initially ruled questionable to return by the team. However, by the fourth quarter, he was ruled out
Sometime in
the second quarter, the CBS broadcast showed Chiefs trainers working on Woods’ neck on the sideline, but he never returned to the game.
This season, Woods has earned half a sack and has batted down a pass. He has 13 tackles and a quarterback hit while playing 46% of Kansas City’s defensive snaps.
If this injury lingers, the near return of second-year defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott — who was designated to return from the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list last week — is even more significant.
