I mean this seriously:
Keeping UConn under 100 points should be seen as an accomplishment.
The average score of the Huskies’ first two Big East games this season: 103-37.
If Marquette gets to 40 points and
keeps UConn under 100, that’s the toughest test they’ve gotten in Big East play so far. Sure, Xavier and DePaul are two of the three worst teams in the conference. But UConn’s been mowing down everyone. Beat USC by 28. Beat South Florida by 34. Beat Utah by 52. Beat Ohio State by 32. Beat Florida State by 32.
Losing 89-69 would be better than any of those teams did.
Winning? I dunno, what’s the state of Connecticut’s rules and laws about concealed carry of weapons?
Get through this in one piece, regroup for a cupcake against Truman State on Saturday, take eight days off for Christmas, and come back ready to attack the Big East schedule between now and Valentine’s Day. That’s the game plan.

Marquette is 1-22 all time against Connecticut. The Golden Eagles picked up their only win in the series during the 2023 regular season, downing #4 UConn at the McGuire Center. The Huskies have won all six meetings since then, including putting Megan Duffy at the helm of the single worst offensive performance in the history of MU women’s hoops in the 2024 Big East tournament semifinals. That happened. Never forget.
Okay, so, sure, UConn’s good, obviously, they’re #1 in the Associated Press poll, #1 at BartTorvik.com, and #1 at Her Hoop Stats. But they have to have some weaknesses, right? At least one?
[checks their Torvik page]
ah, crap
UConn is top 25 in the country in five of the eight Four Factors between offense and defense, and they’re #2 in offensive efficiency and #1 in defensive efficiency as a result. They’re not elite at rebounding….. where the Huskies are “merely” top 60 on both ends of the court.
OH HO!
I HAVE FOUND A FLAW!
UConn STINKS…. at getting to the free throw line. They’re #348 in the country. I guess they’ll have to just settle for being the #8 three-point shooting team and the #15 two-point shooting team to make up for the lack of free throws.
Azzi Fudd currently leads the Big East in scoring at 18.1 points per game, while Sarah Strong is right behind her at 17.5, and also holds the conference leads in both rebounding (8.7) and blocks (2.0). That is very unfair of them and they should share with the rest of the Big East.
Would you like to hear a very funny joke?
Sarah Strong — listed as a 6’2” forward on the UConn roster — leads the team in assists at 4.9 per game. What are you even supposed to do about her, other than attempting to let a bear out onto the court?
This isn’t a basketball team, this is an elite strike force carrying out wetwork assignments across the country.
